Invisible things are biting me
Question: I returned from an overnight visit at a rustic camp, having been bitten throughout the night in my bed. About 7-10 days later I noticed more of the same at home. Invisible things biting me in my bed, on my couch, in my chair. Now I'm visiting family on holiday, and they're biting me here too (I noticed them slightly at Thanksgiving).
I'm pretty sure that it's some kind of mite.
We have wood floors; we've washed bed linens religiously. I wear Skin-so-Soft lotion and Deep Woods Off to bed at night to avoid some of the biting. Can Orkin help with this? The company that we've been using has sprayed Nylar several times, to no avail. The fellow thinks that we need to get rid of our bed, couch, chair and rug.
Answer: The only mite that could do this would be scabies mites, and I don't think you picked up these mites in that cabin.
Your Pro might try putting sticky traps under the couch and the bed. If something is there, he might catch a specimen. Try to remember if anything has changed that might have triggered an allergic reaction—laundry detergent, soap, shampoo, deodorant, etc. A dermatologist might have some suggestions.
